I am currently working on a series series of paintings based on the ten plagues of Egypt from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. The series explores the the ordinariness of being or feeling plagued in large and small ways. For example, the fourth plague, Flies, depicts flies at one's picnic. The ninth plague, darkness, is the common plague of laundry. I am painting the tenth and most disturbing plague, the death of the firstborn by drawing and painting each of the fledgling birds my two kittens have killed when they've escaped. The subject is the plague of invasive species we humans cause and the tiny and profound tragedies that result.
